In between those verses are reminders that we should continue to follow Christ, not to fall for ideas of this world or religion. Our past has been canceled and the rulers and authorities of this world have been disarmed when it comes to those standing firmly in Jesus.
Maybe that's the hitch? Some come to Christ, ask Him to be their Savior and Lord, but continue to live as though the enemy in their lives is not disarmed. Or they continue or begin to follow new rules or hold on to their pasts as if it really wasn't wiped clean, rather than truly giving Christ the headship of their lives, being truly led by His Holy Spirit. As a result, genuine unity with Christ may not be experienced, leading to disconnect in our homes, families, and even churches. It seems God is reaffirming the importance of His Holy Spirit and His Love. It is a repetitive truth, but one we must embrace in order to live as we are called to live.
