1 Samuel 16:13 David was Anointed and the Holy Spirit was with Him
. As David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed [consecrate or set apart] David with the oil. And the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah. . Not only did the Holy Spirit come powerfully upon David, but the Holy Spirit also came upon Jesus. Luke 3:22 states: and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; Jesus promised in John 14:15-21 “the Holy Spirit, who leads in all truth, will come to us and assured this was why He had to leave the earth in the first place, so the Holy Spirit could come to us, see John 16:7. . We see in Acts 2 the game changed for the church once the Holy Spirit visited the believers in the Upper Room: Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. This was spoken about in Joel 2:28, where it is said God’s Spirit would be poured out on all people, sons and daughters alike. Later in Acts 2, verse 33 we see “the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.” . The Holy Spirit, is God’s gift to us, just as it was given to David. Romans 8:1 says There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Later verse 10 and 11 state …the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. . The Spirit of the Lord in our lives is absolutely essential to living out the will of the Lord. How are we to know if we have been blessed with the Holy Spirit? We know by our love. 1 Corinthians 13 makes this very clear: we can speak in tongues, prophecy, possess understanding, understand God’s plans, obtain knowledge, have faith that moves mountains, give to the poor, sacrifice our bodies and even boast about it all – but if we do not have LOVE for others those gifts mean nothing. . Dear God, I pray Your Spirit is powerfully made known in our lives similar to David, but uniquely in our individual lives. I pray we learn to walk according to your Spirit and not after our flesh. I pray as a result of walking according to Your Spirit, Love for others expands, increases and grows exponentially. Thank you Jesus!
