individually. We sense it in our hearts or thoughts. It’s what God is speaking to us. Of course, it has to be checked according to scripture, but we all have both general and unique revelations as we rebuild and we have to rely on wisdom and discernment from the Holy Spirit to keep going in spite of challenges or opposition that may come our way.
Nehemiah had various people throughout the rebuilding process that tried to deceive him, but he knew what they were doing because he listened to the Holy Spirit who gave him the ability to discern. We all have the same Holy Spirit within us to give us wisdom and discernment as we rebuild. We want to see the fruits of the Spirit to be seen in our lives.
I’m sure there are people who knew what I was going through four years ago with my physical challenges and the struggles in my marriage. I’m sure there were people two years ago who saw my skirmish with skin cancer and saw that my marriage was still struggling. These are the people that will know the tremendous work God has done in my life over the past four years. As God is rebuilding and transforming us people will see it. Some will like it and some won’t but we have to keep moving forward regardless of the opinions of others. For me, knowing my husband and daughters, as well as close friends have been witnessing God rebuild in and through my life, compels me to keep going. Every. Single. Day.
Nehemiah 9:16-17 But our ancestors were proud and stubborn, and they paid no attention to your commands. 17 They refused to obey and did not remember the miracles you had done for them. Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt.[d] But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love.
This is a joy that comes from humility and our responsiveness to God. Our response to God’s calling should be one of humility and willingness to move as a result, rather than proud and stubborn.
